Tibetan Children’s Village School Selakui, Dheradun Science Department Annual Report
This year science department activity journey had embarked with the five days intensive workshop in March 2019 from 11th to 15th on Basics in Nutrition by Dr. Bianca Maria from Switzerland at Tibetan SOS Private Industrial Training Institute, Selaqui, Dehradun.
A total of twenty students, ten from each of class tenth and twelve had participated along with our school accountant Mrs. Kunsang Dolma, home mothers, hostel matrons and biology teacher Miss Sherab Wangmo.
Secondly, as every year we do, this time we were able to allow twenty students of the class tenth to participate in the 3 days Navdanya program from 19th till 21st April 2019 along with two science teacher Miss Sherab Wangmo and Miss Pema Dolker as an escort teacher.
The selection of the students was based completely on the Interview organized by the Science team. The workshop had been experiential-based joyful learning for all of the participants. Three days of the workshop covered so many significant learning related to agriculture. That workshop had been eye-opening for many of us.
Like last year we had carried the Master Chef Program for class 6th students, especially initiated by our school science teacher Mr. Tenzin Jamyang last year with the aim of making the students have some hands-on learning. This year, miss Pema Dolker continued the same for class sixth students executed on the 3rd and 6th of July. This program was carried for two days at the Tibetan ITI Industrial Teaching Institute which is situated on the same campus as our school.
On June 19, 2019, seven girls with each exhibit from our school left to participate in the Third CTA level science exhibition at TCV Suja with our school science teacher Miss Pema Dolker. In Suja TCV, they presented their exhibits for two days for guests and local area schools. On their final day, they were taken to visit the nearby monasteries and Bir paragliding spots as an excursion.
In the CTA level exhibits competition, out of our 7 exhibits, 4 were selected to place before CBSE for selection to take part in 46th JNNSMEE-2019 (Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Mathematics, Environmental Exhibition).
Fortunately, unlike only one last year, this time CBSE has chosen our 3 exhibits out of 4 to participate in 46th JNNSMEE 2019. Therefore, six of our class 12 girls along with Miss Tenzin Woeser as an escort teacher left to participate in 46th JNNSMEE 2019 exhibition which took place in Raipur, Chattisgarh from 15th October to 21st October 2019 and on the last day, all the participants were taken for an excursion around in Chattisgarh. On return from the exhibition, these participants had presented their exhibits via video clip and talked about their wonderful projects on the Selakui TCV annual science day. Moreover, they also motivated the other students by sharing how meaningful these learning had been for them and advised them to try to grab opportunities like this in the future.
The last event that we managed for this year was our school annual science day which happened on 25th October 2019. It was a massive success. We had kept the theme “The Science for Sustainable Development” and we had many guests from outside too. Additionally, we were able to arrange two days of students' project exhibitions in a very organized way. The movie ‘October Sky’ was screened on the Science day evening and it was observed that all the students enjoyed it thoroughly.
